I joined Costco when I was living in Florida and never used the membership; The place in Davie, FL was a total rat-race and I never really got to explore it. I went once and I had to park so far away it seemed counter productive. When I moved to Vegas I joined both Sams and Costco and found that I liked Cosco bwtter, mainly because of a better wine and meat selection.
I go to Costco every 3 weeks or so and only buy 3 or 4 items. I'm in and out pretty quick. But I save $50 on a case of wine and usually pick up a chicken, which make it worth the trip.
You enter and see the TVs. Big TVs. Mostly Samsung and LG (and I'll never buy another Samsung TV). Computer monitors are also in this section.
The place is a warehouse with big wide Aisles. No map that I've found. You really have to walk the store to find stuff; and they move stuff occasionally which makes find a particular item challenging sometimes.
What's annoying is that the aisles done have content markers. No "Olive Oil" or "Ceral" listings, just a letter. So the aisle markers are useless unless a store employee points you to one of them.
They have a much better selection of wine here than at Sam's.. You can get bottles that are $18-$20 at Total Wine for $10-12. If you're not too picky the place is fire. I am picky, and to me they have too many mystery blends. Red blends are a crapshoot; you have to buy one and taste it and then another one until you find one you like.
They have a large produce section but I don't buy produce here. A bag of lemons every few months, but you can't buy product in bulk. It goes bad and you have limited refrigerator space.
They have beef here, but they don't always have briskets or ribs. They always have NY Strips and Ribeyes. They have USDA prime but I never buy prime because it isn't usually worth it. If I see some nicely marbled USDA choice I might pick up a package and put it in my freezer. Foodsaver is your friend.
Most of the time I pick up a chicken because it's a no brainer. $4.99 for a chicken twice the size as the ones you get at supermarkets. A 4+ lb chicken for $4.99 read to eat. Its crazy.
Sometimes the chickens are borderline undercooked; they can't seem to get the legs and the breast both cooked right.
I get 4+ meals from a chicken. I have a leg and most of a breast for lunch, then I strip the chicken, make a 1/2 gallon of bone broth in my Instant Pot, and make chicken salad with the rest. I get 2 sandwiches and 2 salads out of the rest. Crazy for $4.99.
You can also buy raw chickens if you prefer to cook your own. I don't know why you'd want to.
They have a walk-in dairy that is as cold as a witches tit. You have to get in and out fast. The prices aren't that good and I don't usually buy dairy here.
I like the self checkout and it goes pretty fast.
The checkout line seems long but I find it goes faster than the other lines. When you buy alcohol you have to gen an age check so it's easy to get an attendent to check out the entire thing so you don't have to take anything out of the cart.
Usually you can get out pretty quickly.
The food is at the exit. I've never had the food here.
One reason is that they have a machine that makes the pizza. Nothing hand tossed here. Seems like Blaze or Mall pizza to me.
I do buy water here. For 25 cents it just seems like a no-brainer value. I used the containers to refill from my fridge dispenser so I don't have to buy the big packages of water. They're good reusable containers.
Lost of people here eating Pizza and Hot Dogs. It's cheap and Costco shoppers like saving money.
The Line out of Costco can get very long on weekends and around holidays. This was early November and you'd think it was Christmas eve. Although it didn't take me too long to check out on this visit.
